About This Fund
Thrive Capital Partners IX is the ninth institutional fund of Thrive Capital, a New York-based venture capital firm founded by Joshua Kushner. The fund completed its final close in August 2024 as the firm's largest fund to date, with total capital commitments exceeding $5 billion across two parallel vehicles: Thrive Capital Partners IX, L.P. (approximately $1 billion, early-stage) and Thrive Capital Partners IX Growth, L.P. (approximately $4 billion, growth-stage). Both vehicles filed SEC Form D on August 15, 2024, under exemptions for qualified purchasers. The fund is managed by Thrive Capital Management, LLC, and is domiciled in Delaware.
Thrive Capital's investment strategy centers on concentrated, high-conviction bets in category-defining companies across internet, software, artificial intelligence, fintech, healthcare technology, and consumer technology sectors. Fund IX continues Thrive's signature approach of maintaining deep, long-duration relationships with founders and backing companies across multiple financing rounds. The firm deliberately pursues fewer investments than most multi-stage funds, deploying larger checks with stronger conviction. The growth-stage vehicle deploys capital into later-stage rounds, secondary purchases, and structured transactions, while the early-stage vehicle supports seed through Series B.
Fund IX raised capital equivalent to the combined total of Thrive's previous two flagship vehicles — Fund VII ($2 billion, 2020) and Fund VIII ($3 billion, 2022) — reflecting sustained LP confidence in the firm's track record. Key investments made under prior Thrive funds include Instagram (2012), Spotify, GitHub, Oscar Health, and Stripe, where Thrive led a $1.8 billion investment round in 2023. In October 2024, Thrive committed approximately $1 billion to OpenAI's $157 billion valuation financing round, demonstrating Fund IX's capacity for transformative, high-conviction single-company commitments.
