The Column Group Opportunity III ("TCG Opportunity III") is the third later-stage venture capital fund of The Column Group (TCG), a San Francisco-based life sciences investment firm with more than $4 billion in assets under management. The fund closed on June 9, 2022 at $615 million as part of a dual-fund close alongside TCG's early-stage vehicle The Column Group V, with the two funds together raising $1.23 billion in capital. TCG Opportunity III serves as the dedicated later-stage financing vehicle within The Column Group's integrated fund ecosystem, providing follow-on capital to portfolio companies advancing through clinical trials and patient dosing phases.
TCG Opportunity III makes later-stage investments—typically Series C and beyond—in life sciences companies that are advancing therapeutic programmes into clinical development. Many of these investments are in companies already backed by The Column Group through its early-stage funds (TCG I through TCG V), creating a seamless financing continuum for portfolio companies as they scale from platform development to clinical proof-of-concept and regulatory milestones. The fund may also invest in select portfolio companies of other leading biotechnology investors where TCG identifies compelling late-stage risk-reward profiles. The Opportunity series reflects TCG's conviction that the highest-value inflection points in its best companies occur during clinical development—and that a dedicated crossover/late-stage vehicle is critical to capturing that value.
