About This Fund
Dementia Discovery Fund 2 (DDF-2) is a $269 million specialized venture capital fund managed by SV Health Investors, dedicated exclusively to building and backing companies developing novel therapeutics for dementia. The fund announced its final close on 20 May 2025, bringing total capital raised across the Dementia Discovery Fund (DDF) family to more than $550 million and establishing DDF as the world's largest dedicated venture fund platform for dementia drug development.
DDF-2 invests in highly innovative biotech companies developing life-changing therapies for patients worldwide, with a target portfolio of 10 to 15 companies primarily across the United States, United Kingdom, and Europe. The fund's model combines venture capital with deep domain expertise in neurodegeneration: roughly half of all DDF portfolio companies have been built from the ground up by the DDF team itself, while the remainder are founded by world-class scientists backed by DDF's capital and operational support. DDF-2 builds on the first fund's track record of backing computational and biological platforms targeting the more than 50 million people worldwide living with dementia.
The fund's limited partner base reflects its dual scientific and financial mandate. Pharmaceutical co-investors include Biogen, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly, GSK, Johnson & Johnson, Otsuka (Astex), Pfizer, and Takeda. Institutional and mission-driven investors include AARP, Aegon, the British Business Bank, Gates Frontier, UnitedHealth Group, the Alzheimer's Association, Alzheimer's Research UK, and LifeArc. The fund is managed by SV Health Investors' dedicated DDF team led by Managing Partner Kate Bingham and partners Jonathan Behr, Laurence Barker, and Christian Jung, operating from offices in London and Boston.
