About This Fund
Primavera Capital Fund IV is the fourth flagship private equity fund managed by Primavera Capital Group, a Hong Kong-based investment firm founded by former Goldman Sachs managing director Fred Hu. The fund closed on approximately $4.05 billion in commitments in early 2023, surpassing its original $4 billion target and making it one of the largest China-focused private equity vehicles of its vintage. The fund carries a 2021 vintage year, having launched in May 2021 with backing from a global investor base spanning sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and family offices including AIA Group, Bank of China, MetLife, State Street Corporation, and TSMC.
The fund employs a buyout and control-oriented investment strategy, targeting opportunities in the Asia Pacific region with a primary focus on China. Fund IV pursues opportunities in sectors where China has structural competitive advantages, including technology, consumer businesses, financial services, and healthcare companies benefiting from long-term macro trends such as digitalization, urbanization, and the rise of the Chinese middle class. The strategy encompasses buyouts, control-oriented investments, growth capital, and cross-border transactions linking Asia with global markets. The fund is structured as a Cayman Islands exempted limited partnership.
Primavera Capital Group is known as an early investor in Ant Group and has a long track record of backing category-defining Chinese companies across multiple fund generations. Fund IV follows the success of Fund III ($2.5 billion vintage 2015) and represents a scale-up of the firm's core China-focused strategy. The fund's LP base spans institutions from Asia, Europe, and North America, reflecting global confidence in Primavera's investment platform and China's long-term economic trajectory.
