About This Fund
Palamon European Equity III, L.P. is the third buyout fund raised by Palamon Capital Partners, an independent private equity partnership founded in 1999 and headquartered in London (60 Charlotte Street, London W1T 2NU), with a pan-European investment focus. The fund closed on 30 September 2013 with €210 million in committed capital, following a prolonged fundraising process that began in late 2011—a period of constrained European LP appetite in the aftermath of the financial crisis. To maintain investment pace alongside the primary fund, Palamon established the Palamon Auxiliary Partnership 2013, a companion co-investment vehicle of approximately $130 million (per SEC PFRD filings) that invested alongside Fund III on a deal-by-deal basis. The fund and its companion vehicle collectively raised without a placement agent, relying on Palamon's existing LP relationships built across its prior fund generations.
Palamon European Equity III pursues controlling-stake and co-lead buyout investments in European mid-market service companies, deploying equity tickets of €15–80 million per transaction in businesses with proven market positions and asset-light, recurring revenue characteristics. The fund targets four primary sectors: financial services (non-bank financing, payments, loyalty), business services (technology-enabled, B2B recurring revenue), consumer and education, and specialist healthcare. Geographically, the fund is pan-European with particular focus on the United Kingdom, Germany, Benelux, Italy, Spain, and the Nordic countries. Palamon's investment thesis emphasizes operational value creation through management engagement, international expansion, and organic and acquisition-led growth, with target holding periods of five to seven years.
Palamon European Equity III entered tail-end status by its second year of life: in August 2015, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley (AIMS PE Group), Rothschild Merchant Banking, Adams Street Partners, and PGGM acquired secondary LP stakes in Fund III and its predecessor in a structured stapled transaction that simultaneously committed capital to Palamon European Equity IV (final close January 2016). This deal was recognized as 'Secondaries Deal of the Year in Europe' by Private Equity International. As of 2025, secondary LP stake transfers involving Five Arrows Secondary Opportunities and Kline Hill Partners are ongoing, indicating an active residual portfolio wind-down. Palamon Capital Partners reports total firm-level capital of €2.5 billion deployed across 43 companies since inception.
