Bpifrance Investissement Ecotechnologies 2 is a €300 million cleantech and environmental impact venture capital fund launched in 2022 by Bpifrance, the French public investment bank, as the successor to the original Ecotechnologies fund. Managed by Bpifrance's dedicated Green Venture team, the fund is focused on backing technology companies developing scalable solutions to address major environmental and climate challenges across key transition sectors.
Ecotechnologies 2 targets primarily late Series A and early Series B rounds in companies developing innovative technological building blocks with demonstrated proof of concept and early commercial traction. The fund invests average tickets of approximately €5 million, with a range of €2 million to €10 million, and consistently seeks private co-investors in each transaction to maximize capital efficiency and market validation. This approach embeds the fund within a broader ecosystem of private cleantech investors and ensures portfolio companies benefit from a diverse base of engaged shareholders.
The fund's investment thesis spans four major environmental transition verticals: energy transition (solar, wind, storage, hydrogen, and efficiency solutions), sustainable agriculture and food systems (agtech, precision farming, and alternative proteins), green mobility (electric vehicles, multimodal transport, and smart logistics), and circular economy and waste reduction (materials recovery, industrial symbiosis, and bio-based materials). Ecotechnologies 2 forms part of Bpifrance's Green Venture platform, which manages over €600 million in total assets dedicated to environmental innovation. The fund reflects France's national ambition to become a leader in clean technology and contributes to the broader France 2030 government strategy for industrial and ecological transformation.
