About This Fund
BGV II is Bethnal Green Ventures' second flagship impact technology fund, established to back one hundred early-stage technology startups addressing significant social and environmental challenges. Bethnal Green Ventures (BGV), founded in London and widely credited with pioneering the 'tech for good' movement in European venture capital, launched BGV II in 2024 with a fundraising target of £50 million, completing its first close at £33 million. Notable anchor investors in the first close include the British Business Bank, M&G Catalyst, and Big Society Capital, reflecting strong institutional conviction in impact-first early-stage technology investing.
BGV II deploys capital across early-stage technology companies through the firm's signature Tech for Good Programme, providing pre-seed and seed funding typically coupled with intensive mentorship and a structured cohort-based programme. BGV's portfolio companies operate across sectors including mental health technology, education technology, climate technology, accessibility tools, and digital public services, with a shared commitment to technology that creates measurable positive societal or environmental outcomes. The fund commits to investing at least half its capital in ventures with at least one female founder, reinforcing BGV's commitment to diversity as a core investment criterion rather than an afterthought.
As of late 2025, BGV II had made 17 investments including Silence Speaks and other UK-based tech-for-good companies. The fund builds on BGV's decade-long legacy as a seed-stage impact investor, during which it has supported hundreds of companies and established one of Europe's most distinctive founder communities centred on positive societal impact. BGV II positions itself as the institutional benchmark for mission-driven seed investing in the United Kingdom.
