About This Fund
Ambienta IV SCSp is the fourth private equity fund raised by Ambienta SGR, an Italian investment manager founded in 2007 and specializing exclusively in companies whose growth is driven by environmental sustainability. With approximately €3 billion in total assets under management across private equity and credit strategies, Ambienta is Europe's largest private equity manager dedicated to environmental impact investing. The fund is structured as a Luxembourg SCSp (Special Limited Partnership) and is classified as Article 9 under the EU's Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation, placing sustainable investment as its stated objective.
Ambienta IV invests in European mid-market companies with revenues typically between €50 million and €250 million that operate in sectors enabling positive environmental change. Ambienta applies its proprietary Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) tool to quantify and monitor the environmental performance of each portfolio company, and its ESG in Action program to drive active improvement. Target sectors include resource efficiency, pollution control, water management, cleantech, sustainable industrials, and environmental services—businesses that reduce material inputs, energy consumption, or emissions in their respective value chains.
Ambienta IV closed in July 2022 at its hard cap of €1.55 billion in less than six months of marketing, making it the largest European private equity fund ever raised solely focused on environmental champions. The fund attracted capital from approximately 55% European investors and 45% from North and South America and Asia, including leading pension funds, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, and funds of funds. It ranks as the successor to Ambienta III, which closed at €600 million in 2019, demonstrating the firm's consistent ability to scale its environmental PE franchise.
