Company Profile
The Sontag Innovation Fund is a venture philanthropy and impact investment fund wholly owned by The Sontag Foundation, the largest private donor to primary brain cancer research in the United States. Established to build on over two decades of philanthropic experience, the Fund leverages a vast network of scientists, hospitals, universities, and investors to accelerate the development of innovative therapeutics and technologies aimed at diagnosing, treating, preventing, and curing brain cancer.
Since its inception in 2021, the Fund has deployed over $3.5 million across multiple early-stage investments in companies focused on brain cancer therapeutics, diagnostics, and medical technologies. The Fund’s mission is to provide critical capital to de-risk nascent technologies and position them for subsequent funding rounds, thereby accelerating breakthroughs that can change the standard of care for brain cancer patients. All returns generated by the Fund are reinvested by The Sontag Foundation to further its mission in brain cancer research and patient support.
In addition to its investment activities, The Sontag Foundation supports brain cancer research through its Distinguished Scientist Award, a prestigious $750,000 grant awarded annually to promising early-career scientists who demonstrate potential to make significant impacts in the field. The Foundation also partners with other organizations in collaborative efforts to accelerate brain tumor research beyond the scope of individual funders.
