Swedfund

Swedfund International AB is Sweden’s Development Finance Institution (DFI), established in 1979 and wholly owned by the Swedish state. Its mission is to reduce poverty by investing in sustainable businesses that generate jobs, enhance access to essential services, and promote inclusive economic growth in developing countries. Swedfund operates under the Swedish Ministry of Finance and is funded through portfolio reflows and capital injections from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

The organization focuses its investments in four key sectors: Energy & Climate, Financial Inclusion, Sustainable Enterprises, and Food Systems. By providing equity, loans, and expertise, Swedfund supports companies operating in challenging markets across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. The institution emphasizes environmental sustainability, gender equality, and digitalization in its investment strategy, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

As of December 31, 2024, Swedfund managed assets totaling USD 1,171 million. The organization employs approximately 116 professionals and maintains its headquarters in Stockholm, Sweden, with regional offices in Nairobi, Kenya; Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire; and Kyiv, Ukraine.
