SIM IP, also known as Sauvegarder Investment Management, Inc., is an intellectual property investment firm that deploys its own capital to acquire, structure, and monetize intellectual property assets. The firm aims to create liquidity for IP owners while generating risk-adjusted, non-correlated returns for its investors. SIM IP's expertise spans sourcing, evaluating, managing, and financing IP-based transactions, with a focus on identifying overlooked value in a company's intellectual property and structuring transactions to meet the unique needs of IP owners. Their investment strategies include IP licensing, direct IP investments (encompassing structured products like credit, preferred equity, and litigation finance, as well as equity), IP royalty acquisition, and tactical opportunities involving copyrights, distressed investments, refinancings, and other strategic IP acquisitions.

The firm was co-founded in 2024 by Erich Spangenberg and David Kutcher with the objective of building a platform to unlock substantial and repeatable value from intellectual property investments. Erich Spangenberg serves as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman, bringing extensive experience in IP licensing and financing transactions. David Kutcher is the Chief Financial Officer and Head of IP Investments, with a background in investing across various strategies and industries.

SIM IP's portfolio includes a diverse range of owned patent assets and investments. Notable owned portfolios cover technologies such as smart distributed monitoring systems (Qord), video technologies (GL IP Protect), computer-based systems for social networks (Friendship IP Protection), cloud-native automation solutions (Nixu FL IP Protection), telecom technologies (PowerBridge IP Protection), extended reality and haptics (SIM IP HXR), LTE-Advanced technology (AJOU IP Protection), and enterprise management in industrial environments (SForce IP Protection). The firm also has investments like convertible debt in Tangibly, an AI-powered trade secret management platform, and litigation finance for Ona, which focuses on real-time location technologies.

The SIM IP team comprises seasoned professionals with deep expertise in intellectual property and investments. Beyond the co-founders, key team members include Yasser Zaghloul, Managing Director and Chief Technology Officer, who focuses on technical analysis and patent strategy; Adi Sidapara, Chief Strategy Officer, who founded Garden, a patent intelligence platform acquired by SIM IP; and Arvin Patel, a Managing Director recognized for leading multi-billion-dollar patent licensing and monetization programs. The firm also recently welcomed Ehsan Najafabadi as Vice President, focusing on hardware and deep-tech patent portfolios, and Cheryl Milone as Global IP Strategy Leader.
