IQUW Group was a global specialty insurance and reinsurance provider operating within the Lloyd's market. The firm specialized in underwriting a diverse portfolio of risks across multiple lines of business, including cargo, cyber, energy, terrorism, war, directors & officers (D&O), marine & energy liability, property, professional lines, financial institutions, crisis management, credit & political risk, and portfolio solutions. IQUW utilized a data-centric approach, automation, and specialist expertise to assess and manage complex risks for its clients.

Established in 2021 under the IQUW brand, the group built upon a longer history within the insurance sector, with its syndicate management entity incorporated in 1946. IQUW Group aimed to create a high-performing, specialist platform distinguished by talent and market-leading data and technology. The firm operated with a strong emphasis on underwriting expertise and delivering exceptional service to brokers and clients.

On March 23, 2026, Starr, a global investment and insurance organization, completed its acquisition of IQUW Group. This acquisition significantly strengthened Starr's position in the London market and enhanced its global specialty (re)insurance platform. Following the acquisition, IQUW's Syndicate 1856 is being rebranded as Starr, and IQUW Re Bermuda and IQUW's London reinsurance business now trade as Starr Re. The acquisition also included ERS (Syndicate 218), a specialist UK motor insurer, which continues to operate under its existing brand.

Prior to the acquisition, IQUW Group demonstrated substantial market presence, writing $1.88 billion in Gross Written Premium (GWP) in 2025. The firm's team comprised experienced underwriters and professionals focused on leveraging data analytics to refine risk predictions and enhance the claims experience, working closely with brokers, clients, and internal pricing and exposure management teams.
