CommerzVentures is an independent and return-oriented venture capital firm that specializes in backing visionary founders who are shaping the future of FinTech. Established in 2014, the firm focuses on early and growth-stage companies within the financial services and insurance sectors, with a particular emphasis on FinTech, InsurTech, and Climate FinTech. They manage a total of €550 million across three funds, demonstrating a significant commitment to the financial technology ecosystem.

Originally backed by Commerzbank AG, CommerzVentures transitioned to an independent investment management company in 2019, while retaining Commerzbank as its sole limited partner. This strategic move allowed the firm to adopt a more agile investment approach. Since its inception, CommerzVentures has launched three funds: Fund I in 2014 (€100 million), Fund II in 2019 (€150 million), and Fund III in 2022 (€300 million).

The firm has built an impressive portfolio with notable investments in companies such as Marqeta, a card issuing platform that achieved decacorn status and went public on Nasdaq, and eToro, a social trading platform that also reached decacorn status. Other significant portfolio companies include Mambu, a cloud banking platform recognized as a unicorn, and ManyPets, a pet insurance company that has achieved unicorn status. CommerzVentures also boasts successful exits, including the acquisition of Curv by PayPal and Payworks by Visa.

CommerzVentures' investment strategy targets companies at the Series A, B, or C stages, seeking those with a live product generating recurring revenue. The firm's geographic focus is primarily Europe, with a global reach that includes Israel, the USA, and Africa. The team, comprising experienced venture capitalists, personally co-invests in each investment, aligning their interests with those of their portfolio companies and providing strategic guidance and access to key decision-makers across the banking and insurance industries.
