Sterling Equities is a diversified, family-run investment firm established in New York in 1972. The firm was founded in 1972 by Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz as a real estate developer in New York. Over the decades, Sterling Equities expanded its focus beyond real estate to include significant holdings in sports and media. Notable milestones include acquiring a minority interest in the New York Mets in the 1980s, becoming full owner in 2002, and establishing SportsNet New York (SNY) in partnership with leading cable providers in 2005. The firm also developed and financed Citi Field.

Sterling Equities' portfolio includes a wide array of investments.
